He was once upon a time literally into scrap, metal business in Bagalkote, Rabkavi along with his father but over years has carved aniche in revolutionising wholesale textile business. He Started the handloom business by weaving different design sarees for various occasions and later upgraded to power loom and weaving was in a greater swing but as things changed in the market the power loom weaving business came down drastically which made him turn his view towards wholesale business to cater to large number of customers by providing textiles for various occasions.
The business revolutionary is none than Mr.Ganpath Rao Hajare, the Chairman of M/s. Hajare Textiles. When asked how did he land up at this height of success Mr.Ganpath states “I started with small business on honest lines by keeping the customers view point in mind. He says that he was born in Rabkavi and joined hands with his father in his metal business though he was academically good. He recalls that he was not sent to school as his father opined that if Ganpath was educated he would go for a job be it government or private.
Mr.Ganpath gives out a fact here that his brother who had done BE executive engineer, and he completed 1st Bcom. At one juncuture at age of 24-25 he felt of doing something independently and in this endeavor and opened a small shop for this he took a loan of Rs.10,000/- from his friend and started buying scrap worth Rs.10,000/- and would sell it in the nearby market and would buy the scrap again and sell it at Hubli and bring finished goods and sell it at Rabkavi. He says he stopped the scrap business and entered the textiles sector investing the capital and profits got from the scrap business. He was in the handloom business for 20 years. He says that his son Prasanna completed his MBA degree and joined hands with him as Ganpath did not have the capital to give his son to start his own business.
Mr Ganpath had started his textile business again with a small outlet which developed drastically. He says that the sarees in Hajare will be cheaper compared to other shops as the material is purchased directly from the factory with the possible investment and at no point of time the goods were taken on credit basis. Due to this strategy the profit margin fixed was at the lower level which will neither pinch the business or the customers.
He recalls that they would study the market and could know the fact that in the 50 kms range there were 7,000 shops and even if 50 customers buy from Hajare we will get a considerable business and hence started a wholesale business in a showroom in an area of 1 lakh Sq ft. Mr.Ganpath says that “one who is strong Will in business will progress and others will be stagnant”. In midst of this competition we have succeeded by buying good goods and selling it to customers keeping low profit margin. He proudly praises his 3 children who joined hands with him in this wholesale business.
They would buy goods from Ahmedabad, Gujarath, TN and Maharashtra and the silk sarees and art sarees quality has increased customer/s foot fall. It is believed by the customers that buying saree and other dress material from Hajare for marriage and other functions has turned out to be very successful and marriages have lasted for years without any breakups. Whenever children go out to purchase the goods they buy one are two new designer item in vogue in the market.
We provide all variety of textiles for all age groups be it rich, middle and poor class. Ganpath’s son says “He is happy about his father’s hardworking ability and also feels that he is working less than his father”. Ganpath says that education does not play a complete role in business as one who is good at studies may not be good at doing business. With the sale of varieties of textiles we have saved money and time of the customers.
We have opened schools to give education without any commercial aim. The customers who were running around to buy dresses/sarees have saved time and are now in a great confusion as to buy what from Hajare because all brands are so good creating such a situation for a customer to buy more than what they need fearing that they may loose the brand in front of them.
Ganpath is employing over 500 employees under his business empire it is total 500 families, such a great achievement. Ganpath recalls that he was helped by his relatives and friends to keep the business going. Hence, it is the principles of Mr.Hajare which has kept the M/s. Hajare Textiles ticking even today amidst the cut throat competition.
