Born in a family of farmers as the son of Srinivasa Gowda and Yashodhamma, Vijay Gowda always had an inclination towards agriculture. Having completed his education in Kanakapura, he wanted to rear cows and invested Rs 30,000 for buying them, but this venture of his failed when one of the cows succumbed to an illness, so he did his post-graduation and MBA and worked in an MNC for a few years but was not satisfied with his work and finally he decided to return to his home Keralalsandra and pursue his dream.
With the intention of doing something in the land purchased by his grandfather for Rs 500 in the year 1955, which was vacant as it was not fit for agriculture, he consulted Mr. Raghu who visited his land and told him that the land was not good for agriculture or cultivation, so he thought of doing something as commercial in the land and wanted to start an ice cream factory and approached the bank for a loan but the manager dissuaded him from that as he felt that icecreams are seasonal and wouldn’t be a profitable business, this led him to do silkworm rearing, and he also planted some trees in the land.
At this juncture he remembered having read about agritourism and having visited resorts in Coorg and other places he had an idea of doing something similar in his land, so with this intention, he started developing the land in phases with the first borewell, then planting trees of different varieties, building compound to keep of wild elephants and other animals with solar fencing, landscaping all these in phases as he had the crunch of money and many banks were not willing to sanction him loans for his venture.
AGM of Karnataka bank visited the place and was happy with his plans for the resort and promised him loans but when he went to meet him a few days later during 2018, the manager told him that they had stopped giving loans for kind of tourism projects due the landslides in Coorg during that period. Though disappointed with the turn of events he approached the bank again and this time he was allotted a loan of 2.5 crores, much to his relief. This led to the formation of AMEGUNDI RESORT in that barren land. This place had a small creek which was had many tortoises and hence the name Amegundi meaning pond of tortoises.
Resorts from Madikeri and Malnad were inspirations for this concept of Resort. He wanted to develop this resort on those lines, he wanted the resort to have a feel of Malnad where people were at peace and enjoy nature. He wanted people of all walks of life to come and enjoy the place as a family and as a wholesome package. The resort has something which caters to all age groups of people, there are entertainment games like Zipline, Aquatic sports and many more.
The property is spread in 8 acres of land and is open to all kinds of functions like Engagements, Marriage, Birthday parties, or corporate meetings and get-togethers. The resort lies 5 kilometers to the east of Kanakapura town. The rates are very reasonable and are guaranteed full satisfaction with the amount paid. Though initially, banks were varying of sanctioning him loans now after his long struggle, hard work and determination, and development many banks have approached him to give him more loans but he is grateful for Karnataka Bank for their help during his initial days.
All the development was possible due to his sheer determination and careful planning, he built a check dam to the creek in order to provide water for the plantation and this, in turn, has led to groundwater being recharged and as a result, has led to the growth of trees and greenery around. He wants to develop this further and take it to the next level.
