Two young people who met in college and fell madly in love opened a vada pav and pav bhaji store in Mumbai's affluent Kamala Mills district with a Rs 5 lakh investment. After five years, Akshay Pramod Rane and Dhanashree Gharat started Jugaadi Adda, a Rs 20 crore turnover 34-outlet dining chain famed for its mouthwatering fusion vada pav. The pair picked the franchise concept for speedy expansion after creating delectable variations of the popular Maharashtra snack. Only two of the 34 locations are owned by the corporation; the rest are franchises. They charge between Rs 10 and Rs 15 lakh for a franchise and take a 5% cut of franchise profits. Akshay and Dhanshree are both active in the firm, which is a sole proprietorship.
The couple, who come from middle-class households, are now reaping the benefits of their fame and cruising about in a Mercedes C 200 they purchased last year. Akshay's father was a senior engineer at BPCL, while Dhanashree's father works in the fire department. Their mothers are both stay-at-home moms. Akshay left his job as a software engineer at Wipro to open their first store in Kamala Mills in 2016 with only two staff - one to manufacture the vada pav and the other to service customers. Initially, the establishment provided standard vada pav and pav bhaji seen in similar cafes throughout Mumbai. However, Akshay and Dhanashree continued to explore and came up with other versions of vada pav, which quickly became a major hit with customers. Akshay dubbed his first innovation, the ‘Dil Khush’ vada pav - a blend of red sukha chutney, schezwan, some spices and pav pan stirred in butter.
He used to create this dish and let me try it at the shop. When our customers saw me eating it, they would place an order for it as well. Dil Khush quickly became a popular vada pav among many people. They conducted the additional study and developed over 40 different flavours of fusion vada pav at one point. However, they only have 16 types. Many would-be surprised by Akshay's development as an entrepreneur, given that he dropped out of his diploma in IT – which he began after Class 10 – and began working with event management organisations for a couple of years before rejoining the course to complete it and eventually joining engineering. Akshay's life changed when he met Dhanashree at Vidyalankar School of Information Technology in Mumbai, where he was studying engineering. The two agreed to launch a business with the understanding that Akshay would resign his job and focus on the initiative, while Dhanashree would continue to work until the venture was stable.
Akshay invested his heart and soul in the vada pav shop. Business surged once he launched fusion vada pav, and they opened franchises in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Thane, Rajkot, and Morbi. He resigned from his job, where he earned Rs 5.5 lakh per year after they were certain that the firm had taken off. Whereas the franchises make roughly Rs 1.5 crore in monthly sales, their two shops generate Rs 3 crore in annual revenue. In their outlets, the price of vada pav varies from Rs 20 to Rs 50.They deliver raw materials from our Mumbai warehouse to all of the shops to preserve the quality of the vada pav. Their vada and pav are both larger than the vada and pav on the market. That's why we came up with the motto 'Bhai ka vada sabse bada.
