India has seen numerous marvellous houses, temples, and other forms of architecture being constructed, sculpted, and established over time. While some of these structures were wrecked due to invaders or natural disasters, a majority of them are still intact and, in some cases, even functional. Most families still reside in their ancestral home, which could be over a few centuries old, with on-time and minimal maintenance due to the nature of its materials and construction methodologies used.

These methodologies have fascinated Uday R, a visionary builder who established Civil Clique. Born in Mysore, the Cultural Capital of Karnataka, he had aspirations to become a sportsman, but circumstances and his family’s desires to see him excel in education and other academic activities pushed him to concentrate on his studies. While pursuing and obtaining a Diploma in Civil Engineering from JSS Polytechnic in Mysore, he had planned to join the Indian Army and was passionately focused in acing his NCC Exmas while attending every army selection camp. However, his family was utmost concerned regarding his health and well-being, as the army requires sacrifices and top prioritization to defend Bharat successfully, and their loving persuasion rubbed Uday the right way, and he left. He even rejected a job offer in campus placement to go on a pursuit of knowledge and fulfil his parent’s wishes of obtaining higher education. He did not stop his pursuit of knowledge, wherein he wanted to experience and explore each and every technical detail of construction.

Uday migrated to Bangalore and was employed as a Jr. Site Engineer under S.P Projects on behalf of Sankalpa Group of Companies from Mysore. Gaining a year of experience, he joined Sri Jaya Chamarajendra College of Engineering to pursue his education, with most of the subjects being repetitive and boring. He participated in numerous inter college technical seminars and technical presentations, with even winning a few awards, and also successfully completed his pursuit of knowledge in structural engineering with the grace and guidance of Prof. MS Sunil Kumar. Sunil Kumar has been an inspirational and motivational figure in Uday’s life, influencing his thinking and perception of structural design.

Uday then joined S M Associates in 2016 as a planning and execution engineer part time and sharpened his knowledge and business acumen. He stayed an excellent asset to the company till 2018, and later worked for a year in New Consolidated Construction Co. Ltd (NCCCL) as senior site engineer in Bagmane Tech Park. The job’s requirement of long time supervision and continuous standing strained his body, as he suffered from continuous painful bouts of backaches. The pain combined with a meagre income catalyzed Uday’s life, as he wanted to exercise his education and knowledge independently to source his income independently and soon he came back to Mysore to establish Civil Clique in 2019.

Uday was passionate with a fiery obsession towards utilizing innovative solutions, and the first step he took under Civil Clique was leveraging interlocking blocks and eliminating the usage of cement to some extent. Obstacles were waiting to haunt and consume Uday, like a lack of marketing due to financial restraints and limited mediums of communication, but they were conquered with the timeless word-of-mouth advertisement. This expanded Civil Clique’s clientele to an extent that it has undertaken and executed the construction of over 30 houses within 2 years using interlocking mud blocks and eliminating pillars.

Uday R designed and constructed a home resort in a coffee estate in Belur (Anu Ghatta)with a mere 10 lakhs, as the unique material used in the construction process was bamboo, which is cost-efficient compared to steel and also possesses similar strength and endurance. Another reason to utilize bamboo was to preserve the project’s environment, as it was dense with mesmerising flora and fauna. The project still stands strong since its completion in 2019 with minimal to zero damage.

Civil Clique began to rise to the top under the exemplary vision, experience, and guidance of Uday R since then, having gained the trust of a homeowner in Badami, who entrusted with him a project that was calculated to be worth 50 lakhs. Uday utilized his business acumen to reduce it to 35 lakhs by replacing steel with bamboo. Witnessing the incredible heavyweight load resistance strength of bamboo, the owner encouraged him to replace steel with bamboo wherever needed, resulting in a stable yet eco-friendly upgrade to perfecting the project.

Uday R aims to promote the eco-concrete aesthetic, as it is the perfect blend of nature and technology, and can reduce the usage of harmful materials and toxins in the construction industry. Under his vision, Civil Clique aims to fly high and wide, spreading its crème-de-la-creme of services in India. He aims to preserve the construction techniques and material preparations of ancient India via his precise calculation and excellent presentation of design and functionality in each structural project he undertakes.
