Harsha Engineering Works was started 15 years ago by Harshavardhan C with a singular dream - to capture and rule the metal furniture, fabrication, and infrastructure markets. Today, Harshavardhan runs his own 6000-square-foot manufacturing facility that is only growing by leaps and bounds and manufactures products for a host of needs in the industry. At present, Harsha Engineering Works is a pioneer in the production of storage solutions, lab furniture, doors, fire door solutions, walls and ceiling panels, air handling units, and even operation theatres.
Harshavardhan had a pleasant childhood in the city of Bengaluru, and his mother and father supported him throughout, as he was always interested in pursuing a career in the mechanical manufacturing industry. In his teens, he finished his PG Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, before he ventured into starting his manufacturing unit.
The Journey
Harshavardhan began his factory on a small scale at first. He invested heavily in marketing his products and services and started compiling client lists. Over time, his investment paid off, and the orders started pouring in. Harshavardhan also ensured that his testing certifications were in place, especially the CBRI and BFRC certification. What started as a small-scale factory in Peenya with 15-20 customers is now a booming set-up with over 100 customers. He also employed 5-10 employees in the beginning; now, he provides a livelihood to over 50 employees. The set-up is so robust that the facility worked in full swing even during the daunting post-COVID times.
The Products
Harsha Engineering Works boasts a variety of products in their unit. Though they started small, they added products as they grew. Currently, they manufacture all types of mild steel and stainless steel fabrication works, fire door solutions, clean room solutions, retail furniture, residential interior work, commercial interior work, lab and hospital furniture, AC ducting, modular operation theatres, pharma/biotech cleanrooms, and cleanroom/lab equipment supply. They can also customize products and services based on specific requirements.
The Process
Harsha Engineering Works believes in coming up with and sticking to a thorough process from beginning to end. The products may be similar in nature, but each product requires a customized approach to production. It all starts with drawing and then moves to computerized programming of the design and its requirements. Once this is in place, punching, bending, and fabrication are the next parts of the process. This is followed by powder coating, and finally, packaging and distribution. Every product and requirement goes through all parts of this process, and this perfected process is what ensures high-grade products are delivered at the correct time.
The Key to Customer Retention
Harshavardhan believes in keeping the customer happy at all times and maintaining a good work ethic; this, he believes, is the key to why his customers keep coming back to him. The 3 important factors for customer retention, according to him, are maintaining top-notch quality, ensuring a constant supply, and adhering to strict delivery timelines. Any time there is a problem with either of the 3 factors, customer retention becomes hard as trust is compromised. Once trust is lost, it’s very hard to convince the customers to come back with their orders.
His company has worked with big clients in the commercial/industrial field, like TATA Advanced Systems, L&T, Mahindra Aerospace, Bagmane Tech Park, Embassy Group, Brigade Group, Salarpuria Sattva, and Purvankara Limited.
In the pharma/biotech space, they’ve worked with Micro Labs Limited, Cipla, The Himalaya Drug Company, Mother Dairy, and Sterling Labs Pvt Ltd.
In the healthcare industry, Harsha Engineering Works has partnered with Apollo Hospitals, Fortis Hospitals, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals, and Kidwai Hospitals. The company also worked with Bharat Electronics, Indian Railways, and HAL in the Public Sector Undertaking space.
What’s Next?
An avid traveler, Harshavardhan never stops dreaming. For example, while his current unit can manufacture about 50 doors per day, he wants to expand in such a way that he can manufacture 150-200 doors per day - that’s the vision he is going behind. For Harshavardhan, it’s not always about adding new products to the existing list - that’s not what expansion means. For him, expansion is all about scaling up his production abilities and timelines while still maintaining good quality.
Harshavardhan is ably supported by his parents; his mother manages all the accounts for the company, and his father excels at factory management. Together, this family is conquering great heights, providing exceptional products and services, and becoming a trailblazer in the manufacturing industry.
