As social beings, humans require the support of a community to thrive. In earlier times, groups of humans found it easier to survive and thrive together. A community provides basic amenities and ensures each member can live a safe and secure life with their family. However, the rapid growth of cities and economies has resulted in mass migrations, causing many migrants to suffer due to unfamiliarity with the territory and lack of support from authorities.

Anne Frank once said, “How wonderful it is that nobody needs to wait a moment to improve the world."

Although modern facilities are now more widely available, the number of people suffering is still rising. However, it is heartening to see that many non-governmental organizations and charity groups are working tirelessly to ensure that the underprivileged are provided with the necessary facilities. There are also individuals like Abdul Majeed who have gone above and beyond to help others without any support. For the past five years, he has been providing extensive assistance to people, such as by taking patients to hospitals.

Abdul Majeed's journey began in Belgaum district of Karnataka, where he was born and raised. After completing his Diploma in Computer by studying in Kannada, he moved to Bengaluru and began working in ITPL, providing excellent services for several years. However, he constantly questioned whether he was leading the ideal life and living a fulfilled life.

“We are brought into this world for a purpose: to ensure everything and everyone benefits from the existence of humans. ದಯವೇ ಧರ್ಮದ ಮೂಲವಯ್ಯ (Kindness is the root of religion).” said Abdul Majeed.

Gradually, he began to commit himself to social service. When the COVID-19 pandemic caused a worldwide lockdown, the poor and downtrodden were unable to avail themselves of basic amenities. Abdul Majeed decided to assist them and approached the then Commissioner of Bangalore Police, Bhaskar Rao. Abdul Majeed requested, “I desire to help the poor and downtrodden 24*7. I have an auto which can be utilized to assist them.” Bhaskar Rao noticed his good intentions and permitted him. From then on, he began helping people, taking them to hospitals and back. Some patients in prominent hospitals like NIMHANS and KIDWAI come from other states. However, most of them or their visitors come from poor backgrounds and are unable to afford necessities. Abdul Majeed would help them by providing blankets, food, and water.

Once, his auto was seized due to financial disputes, and had to walk for one and a half years to release the seized vehicle. Unfortunately, nobody was there to help him. But, through his determination and perseverance, Abdul Majeed continued with his social work by walking. One day, a kind-hearted stranger called him and asked about his social work. When Abdul Majeed explained his difficulties, the stranger offered to help him by providing a passenger auto to ferry the handicapped and needy people. Within two months, Abdul Majeed received the passenger auto from Shri Shirdi Sai Baba's grace, and he was able to continue his noble work.

Abdul Majeed has ferried patients from hospital to hospital as certain hospitals have amenities that others lack, like CT and MRI scans. He facilitates the easy availability of water for those finding it difficult to access it. He also provides donated clothes to those who cannot afford them. Abdul Majeed does social service full-time. Though financial stability is hard to maintain due to his nature of work, people provide him with food and gas for his auto.

Abdul Majeed once received a call from a hospital requesting him to drop off a patient. The patient was an old man with no one to assist him. Abdul Majeed took him to his house, which was a bungalow. The old man said that his two sons, who were born, brought up, and educated in India, had settled in the USA and refused to come back. He then told Abdul Majeed to drop him at an old age home. Another hospital lacked beds, due to which post-delivery of a child, most patients unfortunately end up sitting outside. Abdul Majeed went and provided the appropriate facilities. People provide him with food packets, blankets, and other amenities that can be utilized by the poor.

Abdul Majeed's one wish to God is to provide him with enough strength to stay committed towards social service until his last breath. It doesn’t matter whether he’s hungry or thirsty; if someone else is, he provides them with food and water. Let's take inspiration from people like Abdul Majeed and make the world a better place by helping those in need.
