Bhaskar Naik was born and raised in Udupi on August 26, 1967, a day celebrated as Mud Engineers Day. Growing up in a family of agriculturalists with 11 siblings, Bhaskar was the youngest child. His formative years in Udupi instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for education. He completed his graduation from Milagres College in Udupi, where he developed a keen interest in the sciences. This passion led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Mangalore University. Not stopping there, Bhaskar sought to expand his managerial acumen at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, where he completed his management studies.

Professional Beginnings and ONGC

In 1990, Bhaskar Naik joined the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), marking the beginning of a distinguished career in the oil and gas industry. His role at ONGC took him across various regions in India, including Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, and Mumbai. During his tenure, Bhaskar worked his way up to the position of Superintendent Chemist, gaining invaluable experience and insights into the intricacies of the oil and gas sector. This period was marked by rigorous on-field experience, contributing significantly to his expertise. However, in 2005, driven by a desire for greater challenges and opportunities, Bhaskar decided to resign from ONGC and embark on a new path as a consultant for oil and gas companies worldwide. His consulting work took him to countries like Oman, Iran, Angola, Iraq, Burma, and others, where he provided expert guidance and solutions.

Entrepreneurial Ventures: Petropaths Fluids India Pvt Limited In

2010, Bhaskar Naik took a significant leap by founding Petropaths Fluids India Pvt Limited in Bangalore. This venture was groundbreaking as Petropaths became the first company in India to produce gas from coal, known as coalbed methane (CBM). This innovation was a game-changer for India’s energy sector, making CBM more accessible and affordable for Indian companies that previously faced exorbitant charges from multinational corporations. Bhaskar’s vision was to empower Indian companies and reduce dependency on foreign technology and services.

Petropaths not only focused on energy production but also prioritized training Indian engineers in oil and gas drilling. Bhaskar proudly highlights that a substantial number of oil and drilling engineers worldwide are Indians, a testament to the quality training programs initiated by his company. These programs aimed to equip Indian engineers with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the global oil and gas industry.

Expansion into Waste Management and Employment Initiatives

Bhaskar’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond energy production. Recognizing the need for sustainable practices in the oil and gas industry, Petropaths began providing waste management services. This initiative was twofold: addressing environmental concerns and creating employment opportunities for the poor and needy. Bhaskar’s commitment to social responsibility is evident in these efforts, which aim to uplift communities while addressing industry needs. By providing jobs and training, Petropaths has positively impacted the lives of many, fostering a culture of growth and development.

Adapting to COVID-19: The Birth of Naik Laboratories

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, particularly to the oil and gas industry. As the sector slowed, Bhaskar was determined to safeguard the jobs of his employees. Leveraging his chemistry background, he pivoted to manufacturing sanitisers and other cleaning products through Naik Laboratories. This transition was crucial in maintaining business operations and ensuring employee retention. The company expanded its product line to include floor, toilet, kitchen, and fruit and vegetable cleaners. Today, Naik Laboratories supplies products to over 100 organizations, maintaining a high standard of quality that meets international benchmarks.

Unique Selling Points and Future Plans

One distinguishing feature of Naik Laboratories is their unwavering commitment to quality. An interesting anecdote exemplifies this: during a sales pitch to Toyota, Bhaskar’s team was challenged to remove grease from the hands of the employees. Successfully doing so, they secured the order immediately. Such instances highlight the efficacy and reliability of Naik Laboratories’ products.

Looking ahead, Bhaskar plans to develop enzyme-based products for hospitals and restaurants, aiming to make Naik Laboratories’ cleaning solutions available worldwide. His vision is to ensure that Naik Laboratories reaches every nook and corner of the globe, setting new standards in the cleaning and hygiene industry.

Personal Interests and Social Contributions

Beyond his professional achievements, Bhaskar Naik is an avid director and producer. He has produced and directed a movie titled “Kudru,” showcasing his creative talents. His dedication to social work is also commendable. Bhaskar actively supports education by providing school buses, books, and uniforms to government schools and colleges. These initiatives ensure access to education for many underprivileged children, contributing to their growth and development.

Bhaskar Naik’s journey from a small town in Udupi to becoming a significant player in the oil and gas industry is truly inspiring. His ability to innovate, adapt, and contribute to society exemplifies his leadership and vision. With ambitious plans for the future, Bhaskar continues to impact both the industry and the community positively. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, innovation, and social responsibility.
