A cafe in Bengaluru is exclusively run by people with disabilities, and the owner of the restaurant is the driving force behind everything.

Meet Alina Alam who is giving a chance to live a self-sustained and independent life for the specially-abled.

Through an internship programmed at Bengaluru's Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, Alina Alam, the founder of Bengaluru's Mitti Cafe, discovered the huge potential of people with disabilities.

Following that, she opened a cafe in which the specially-abled manage the day-to-day business.

She got the notion to aid them after watching a documentary on Nero, the Roman emperor, and how he burned those who he considered were unworthy for a party.

Mitti Cafe was founded in 2017 by a 28-year-old who was firm about her mission and dream.

"For me, this sudden realization was a watershed moment. I figured I wouldn't be able to face myself if I stayed as one of Nero's guests. My parents were disappointed when I opted not to take placements because they expected me to settle down with a job. Rather, I began helping with organizations that promote disability integration," she said.

"The numbers were astounding, 7 crore people with physical, intellectual, and psychiatric disabilities in India, and 1.2 billion globally, all demanding equal opportunities, financial independence, and self-respect amidst their ability to participate in meaningful activity. I realized that the issue wasn't their abilities, but rather our perspective of them and the limitations we imposed on how we saw them, and I realized that this needed to change."

Alina says, "Our workspaces equipment and machinery are also tailored to guarantee that they are secure and easy to use. We have an audio option in our billing system that allows people who are blind to the bill. For interaction with our speech and hearing challenged employees/customers, we provide braille menus and sign language signage."

They've been able to coach many more outstanding adults with disabilities through hands-on experience. They are specifically chosen with other partner organizations after completing on-the-job training.

She emphasizes that her staff should be allowed to make errors and benefit from them. According to the demands of the employees and consumers, kitchen equipment and café spaces have indeed been given access. Most of the menu items, which also include home-style Indian and fusion cuisine, are very simple to prepare.

She believes that because food is also a basic requirement, it has a greater potential for connecting with people. The goal was to reach as many individuals as possible. Mitti Cafe's major goal is to empower people with disabilities by providing work and spreading awareness.

Mitti Cafe intends to expand its branches in Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad shortly. Now, the cafe has branches in Bengaluru and Kolkata.
