Meet Mamatha S, the founder of Arha GlamUp, a beauty, cosmetic, and personal care venture. Hailing from Namma Bengaluru, Mamatha has been passionate about being an artist ever since her childhood. However, owing to difficult family circumstances, Mamatha pursued her education in the field of commerce and worked for 7 years in a private company. Long working hours, lack of commensurate hikes, and health-related issues that stemmed from work stress all led Mamatha to quit her job and start something on her own - a venture where she would be her own boss!

An only child of a single parent, Mamatha was raised by her maternal grandmother, Lingarajamma, who was also a single parent. Her father had left the family long ago, and no one knew his whereabouts. Despite the harsh realities she faced while growing up, her grandmother was as loving as she was inspiring and strived hard to give her a comfortable childhood. Unfortunately, her grandmother passed away, but very luckily, she met her fiance Praveen, who was by her side as she started her entrepreneurial journey.

The Road to Success

After quitting her job in a private company, Mamatha initially enrolled in mehendi classes. However, very soon, she realized that she wanted to offer many more services to her customers at Arha GlamUp, and thus, she undertook training in makeup and beautician courses. She added these services to the existing repertoire, and her customers loved the new additions!

Slowly, through word-of-mouth marketing and external referrals by her customers, Mamatha managed to create a good customer base. She offers discounts and packages to her existing customers and also offers referral discounts for those who bring in new customers. This helps keep the customer base growing and offers amazing networking opportunities for Mamatha.

Today, she has a steady stream of loyal customers who don’t wish to go to other make-up artists because of the relationship they have built with Mamatha and the high-quality services she provides.

The Middle-Class Dream

Mamatha’s dream is to cater to middle-class customers. She believes that people from higher classes have a variety of options in terms of spas and salons. However, the middle class doesn’t have too many options at affordable prices. Mamatha’s services are a hope for middle-class customers who may not have too much expendable income, especially for services like makeup, which are often considered a luxury.

Whether it is a bride who is looking for an amazing but affordable bridal look for her wedding day or a college-going girl who is looking for a fashionable look for her college annual day, Mamatha caters to them all.

What’s the Future?

Mamatha is a dreamer. While her first love always remains makeup and beauty, she doesn’t want to stop here. She wants to grow her business in manifold ways and expand to other middle-class markets like customized corporate gifting, event management and decorations, and photography services - all at affordable prices for great quality. She dreams of her business being a one-stop shop for customers, whatever their needs may be.

Coming from a line of strong women, Mamatha draws inspiration from the difficulties she had to face in life as well as from her mother Chandrakala, and her grandmother Lingarajamma. She believes that women should strive ahead despite familial and social constraints and make a name for themselves. They must learn to be independent and take pride in the work they do. She also espouses that women should support other women, no matter how difficult it may be, because one can move forward only with the support and blessings of those around them.
