Man behind 3000 tons per month biscuit production for Britannia : B Krishnappa

Mr. B. Krishnappa basically a civil Engineer thought of venturing into entrepreneurship one fine morning.  He decided to plunge into the food processing sector. All he had was an unfailing commitment to good business practices and set benchmarks to deliver unquestionable quality. He set up a unit and decided to make biscuits. Mr Krishnappa impressed upon the biscuit giant ‘Britannia’. Soon their enterprise became the most preferred business partner of Britannia. There was no looking back since then. Today, they manufacture the premier line of biscuits for Britannia. They now have an eye on the global majors to embark on large-scale expansion programs.

 

They initially started with manufacturing Glucose Biscuit (Tiger Brand) and soon their efforts were recognized & encouraged by Britannia which went on to add one more line and increased the production capacity. The main reason for their success is their capability to deliver the right quality product with the target of zero error. This trait has helped to become the most preferred unit for Britannia. Ltd is committed to the resources for the manufacturing and distribution of safe, High-quality, and whole-some Biscuit products with the objective of ensuring and delivering consistent customer delight.  

Mr. Krishnappa hails from a rural background. He was born in Bommanadoddi, Mandya District to Kari Gowda and Channamma. He is the youngest among the 6 siblings who are basically from an agricultural background. His mother always wanted Krishnappa to do higher studies and hence he studied Engineering. His mother’s advice to Krishnappa was that he should be in a position to provide job opportunities for others. After completing Engineering, he entered the land development business and also succeeded in the same field. But there was always a void in his mind even though he made good profit in the business. He always thought about his mother’s words that he should give back to society.  

In the year 2005, he decided to close his Real Estate business. During that period he came across an advertisement in a leading newspaper about the opportunity. Britannia was looking for a channel partner and investor for their company and Krishnappa showed interest in the Business. Britannia Industries is one of India’s leading food companies with a 100-year legacy and annual revenues in excess of Rs. 9000 Cr. Britannia is among the most trusted food brands and manufactures India’s favourite brands like Good Day, Tiger, NutriChoice, Milk Bikis and Marie Gold which are household names in India.  

Mr.Krishnappa approached the company directly and gave a proposal of his plans. He gets allotted a KIADB Land in Bidadi, Karnataka where he invests Rs.18,000Cr initially with around 150 workers. All the raw materials and the things required would be provided by Britannia and the biscuits would be manufactured in Paramount Nutritions. The manufacturing and packaging are done here. The humble journey which began here manufactures around 3000 tons of biscuits in a month with 3000 workers today.

None of the staff are allowed inside the vicinity without hand gloves, apron and head gear keeping in mind the safety and hygiene of the products.

It has received the IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award in 2011, the Business Excellency partnership award from Britannia in April 2012, the Rotary BSE SME National Award for Excellence in 2012, the Good Day Gold League Gold trophy award in 2013 from Britannia, the Best Good day cashew manufacturing unit in 2015 from Britannia to name a few.

Mr.Krishnappa’s wife Mrs.Suman Krishnappa, an M.S communication graduate  is one of the Directors of Paramount Nutrition. She received the Swarnakamala National Film Award for Best Publisher in 2010-11 from the honourable president of India Mrs.Prathibha Patil.

The couple is continuously indulged in serving middle & lower-middle-class groups of society.

They have a special consideration for those who hail from rural areas & innumerable contributions have been made for educating the poor students through scholarships. They have also helped many villages with schools and water facilities.  

Mr Krishnappa is also the president of Kempegowda Co-operative Society. Being a technical graduate, he uses his entrepreneurial concepts and ideas towards the Bank. He is also one of the founders and Director of Kempegowda Co-operative Society and is presently the President of the Society. He has a special consideration for those who come from rural areas and helps them with employment opportunities. He has made innumerable contributions towards the education of poor students.  

CSR ACTIVITIES  

The business entity formulates a CSR policy to guide its strategic planning and provide a roadmap for its CSR initiatives, which is an integral part of overall business policy and aligned with its business goals. The core elements of CSR policy are Ethical functioning, Respect for Workers' Rights and Welfare, Respect for the Environment, and Activities for Social and Inclusive Development.  

Some of the initiatives are:   ·        

Providing drinking water in ABBAN KUPPE village. ·        
Feeding orphanage children every month.
Textbooks& notebooks distribution for school children. ·        
Sponsored 1 lac litre capacity drinking water tank in Abbankuppe village. ·        
Providing all possible care to destitute children, so far 90 centres have been established. ·        
Over 300 children have found caring homes in these centres.

        

In view of promoting sports for rural youth sponsoring district-level volleyball tournaments every year.  

To create an understanding of the degradation and pollution of our environment due to various factors, the entire unit has been designed in a way that the theme for all exhibits is chosen from the relevant prescribed curriculum and thus act as guidelines for the school children in increasing their ability to understand well. The children are taught about the importance of conservation and management of the environment.  

Incorporating quality as the single most important factor helped Paramount Nutrition survive with Sustainability. Started in 2008 as a partner vendor of Britannia, their efforts are recognized and encouraged to increase the production capacity. Today Paramount has become one of the most preferred channel partners of Britannia and what started with Rs. 18,000 Crores investment is now Rs. 35,000 Crores in just six years.
