N Prabhakar Urs: The Education Enforcer

Education is the key to unlocking numerous possibilities in life. As Malcolm X once said, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." Unlike money and other possessions, education is an asset that can never be stolen from you. Education helps individuals understand various subjects and guides them throughout their lives, influencing them to make better decisions. Every child dreams of pursuing their aspirations in engineering, art, teaching, poetry, or even becoming an astronaut, and education is the foundation to fulfill such dreams.

N Prabhakar Urs is a veteran in the education industry, having served over two decades as a secretary in Pratibhanikethana Vidyamandira, located in the picturesque district of Tumkur, Karnataka. He was born and brought up in Tumkur, and his father served in the Air Force during WWII before working for KSRTC in Kolar. His father worked hard for several years, providing for the family, before retiring in 1984. Prabhakar completed his high school education in Korategere, pursued a B.Sc and B.Ed, and successfully graduated from it.

Soon after his graduation, Prabhakar got his first opportunity to work in a school. While fully immersed in the school's day-to-day operations, he and his friends, who were also teachers, initiated a plan to establish their school with the noble intention of educating rural children. He visited various schools to learn the ways and procedures involved in running a school. Establishing connections on the way, Prabhakar and his group established 'Prathibhanikethana Vidyamandira' in 2004, an English Medium Pre-Primary and higher Primary School in Koratagere Taluk, Tumkur. The school's name is unique, and while there were initial thoughts of renaming it, it was eventually dismissed.

During the early days, many partners left their positions, leaving only N Prabhakar Urs and a few others, including his family members, to support the school. With their help, Prabhakar ensured the school's longevity, and it will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024. While serving as the secretary of Prathibhanikethana Vidyamandira, Prabhakar noticed a lack of interest among meeting attendees. In 2014, when WhatsApp was just starting to gain popularity in India, he quickly saw its potential and created a WhatsApp group for members. The group was mainly used to share important news, announcements, and plans for improving schools. Today, the group has around 350 members.

N Prabhakar Urs has overcome numerous obstacles, both big and small, on his journey to provide excellent education to rural children. Despite the lack of necessary staff in many rural schools, with some having only one teacher to instruct every student from first to fifth grade, N Prabhakar and his team have persevered. They have also navigated through conflicts and debates on the increase in school fees for government schools, with a slight preference given to private schools under the CBSE and ICSE boards. Even though the journey has been challenging, N Prabhakar and his team have achieved several victories. Their commitment to providing quality education to rural children is truly inspiring.

N Prabhakar Urs desires more unity among the members of various educational organizations, as they all have one common goal: providing each child with the highest education possible. He, along with other like-minded individuals, got together in 2022 and started OUR Schools, with OUR standing for 'Organization for Unaided Recognized Schools', establishing its registered office in RT Nagar, Bangalore. He ensures to continue being committed to his aim of providing excellent education while overcoming every hurdle.
