For most, accidents are unfortunate events. For Hanshi Dr. S Krishnamurthy, an accident became the catalyst that steered him towards a lifelong commitment to martial arts. It was his martial arts skills, which he learned from his father, that saved him during the accident with a precisely executed roll. Hanshi Dr S Krishnamurthy is a versatile martial artist with expertise in full-contact karate, kickboxing, kathi varse, Maui Thai, and various other traditional weapons.

With over 28 years of experience in the art, he is the founder of Oshokai Martial Arts College. At a young age, he became India’s youngest grandmaster and earned an eighth-degree black belt from the Osho Kai Martial Arts Academy. His remarkable achievements include being a Nobel World Record holder and receiving prestigious honours like the Shourya Ratna State Award, Bharatha Vikasa Ratna National Award, Youth India Gaurav National Award, and the Award of Excellence in International Martial Arts, where he was recognized as “Master of the Year.” While recovering from a severe accident in which he injured his right shoulder, Hanshi Dr. S Krishnamurthy found solace and strength in the martial arts techniques he had been practising since childhood.

Though doctors recommended surgery, his father’s Ayurvedic oil massages facilitated a remarkable recovery within two months—without the need for surgical intervention. Building a Legacy in Martial Arts Hanshi Dr. S Krishnamurthy’s impact on the world of martial arts is unparalleled. He has held significant positions such as President of the Karnataka State Kickboxing Association (KSKA), Secretary-General of the World Federation of Karate-Do (WFKF), National Vice President of the Amateur Sports Karate-Do India (ASKI), President of the Muay Thai Association of Karnataka, and General Secretary of the All Styles Karate-Do Karnataka (ASKK). Krishnamurthy’s journey in martial arts began under the guidance of his father, an expert in the traditional Indian martial arts forms of Donne Varse and Kathi Varse.

Starting his training at the age of seven, he developed an unyielding passion for martial arts. The Founding of Oshokai Martial Arts College In 2007, Krishnamurthy transitioned to a full-time martial arts career, founding the Oshokai Martial Arts College. Headquartered in Mysore, with branches in Mandya and Hassan, the college has become a hub for martial arts enthusiasts across the region.

Currently, the institution rigorously trains over 300 students in various martial arts disciplines. Krishnamurthy is also a trainer for the Karnataka Police Academy, teaching unarmed combat skills to law enforcement personnel, and demonstrating the practical applications of martial arts in real-world scenarios.

He once aspired to join the Indian defence forces and later pursued a career in business with ventures in travel, computer sales, and services. Destiny had different plans which led him to fulfil a different mission—one that involves empowering others through martial arts. Vision for the Future: A University for Martial Arts Hanshi Dr. S Krishnamurthy’s vision extends beyond the walls of his college.

He is dedicated to spreading awareness that martial arts originated in India with the traditional forms of Kuthu Varse before being exported to other countries.
