Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has recently announced the launch of the seventh edition of the Santoor Scholarship Program, in collaboration with Wipro Cares. This initiative aims to offer financial assistance to young women hailing from disadvantaged backgrounds who aspire to pursue higher education after completing their grade 12 studies.

Acknowledging that education is a collective responsibility that transcends the individual or family, the Santoor Scholarship Program was established in the academic year 2016-17. Its primary goal is to contribute to a more just and equitable society by facilitating access to higher education. The program offers financial support of INR 24,000 per annum, encompassing tuition fees, living expenses, and other related costs, to young women aspiring to pursue higher education after completing their grade 12 education. To date, the Santoor Women’s Scholarship Program has awarded over 6000 scholarships. This year, the program is extending its support to 1900 deserving candidates in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.

P.S. Narayan, Global Head – Sustainability and Social Initiatives at Wipro Limited, expressed, "We firmly believe that education serves as a pivotal catalyst for societal change. Empowering women through enhanced education contributes to creating a fair, equitable, and compassionate society.

The Santoor Scholarship Program is designed to bring about this essential transformation in diverse communities and regions, with a special focus on underserved backgrounds. At its core, this initiative embodies our commitment to fostering grassroots social change through education, which acts as a crucial enabler of multi-generational transformation at the individual, family, and community levels."

Neeraj Khatri, Chief Executive of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, shared his thoughts, stating, "Many young women confront formidable challenges due to societal and cultural factors, particularly in marginalized and underserved communities. For some, the lack of financial resources jeopardizes their aspirations for higher education, making them susceptible to issues such as early marriages, increased poverty, and further disempowerment. The Santoor Scholarship Program serves as a platform to empower these young women by providing them with the necessary resources to overcome financial barriers and pursue higher education."

Reflecting on her personal experience, Ms. Prasanna Kumari, a second-year B.Com student and beneficiary of the Santoor Scholarship Program, shared, "I aspire to become an IAS officer in the future. However, financing my studies presented a significant challenge. Being part of the Santoor Scholarship Program has not only relieved me of my financial burden but has also been a life-changing experience for me and my entire family, empowering me to aspire to a brighter future. This program is more than just financial aid; it symbolizes belief and support for women like me."
