Not many Indians know about the existence of the most expensive and delicious beverage in the world, Civet Coffee. For the first time ever, a coffee expert called Narendra Hebbar from Coorg in the state of Karnataka introduced Civet Coffee to the nation with his café called Coffee Collective 1854(Rebranded in 2022) in the year 2014.

The process of making this magical coffee is intriguing. An animal called the Civet Cat is very common in coffee estates that feed on ripe coffee cherries in the areas of coffee plantations. During the digestion of these cherries, a miraculous fermentation process is triggered, which powers up the flavor of the beans producing a unique and rich taste. Once the beans are disposed of from civet cats as faeces, it is extracted and processed for consumption, which becomes the most expensive beverage and coffee in the world. The cost of Civet Coffee beans is priced at an estimated of INR 9000 per Kg.

During the processing of the Civet Poo, 60% of the substance is lost during the excretion and only the remaining 40% is processed while only the beans that are above 5.5 mm are roasted, making it one of the most expensive coffees in the world.  The world-famous, Wild Civet Coffee (Kopi Luwak), Organic Arabica, Monsoon Malabar, Expresso blend, handcrafted Italian brews, south Indian premium filter coffee in flavors of Expresso, Cappuccino, Cold Coffee, French Press, Pour Over, Cold Brew, and more are some of the variety offered by Coffee Collective 1854.
