An architectural practice grows through the spaces it creates and the people who place their trust in it. For Murraliidhhar, that journey has encompassed more than 1,000 projects, from individual homes to schools, hospitals, industrial buildings and resorts. Behind this extensive portfolio is a career that began in Karnataka, developed through experience with established architects and took an independent direction with the founding of his own practice in 1991.

Born in Tumkur, Murraliidhhar spent his school years in Huliyar before returning to Tumkur for his pre-university education. He subsequently studied at Malnad College of Engineering in Hassan, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1987. His education provided the foundation for a profession that would take him into diverse building categories and, through his Vastu consultancy, across India.

His family background had a strong connection to enterprise. His father, Keshava Murthy, was a businessman who owned a printing press, while his mother, Jayalakshmi, was a homemaker. Growing up with two brothers and a sister, Murraliidhhar belonged to a household where running a business was part of the family experience. He would eventually establish an enterprise of his own, choosing architecture as his professional field.

After graduation, he worked with architect Jaisim and later with Zatharia and Thomas. These appointments formed the early professional chapter of his career, allowing him to gain experience within established practices before setting out independently. In 1991, four years after completing his degree, he opened Muralidhar and Associates, taking on the responsibilities of both architectural work and practice ownership.

The move into independent practice gave his career a new direction. Architectural experience now had to sit alongside the practical demands of building a business, developing professional relationships and delivering projects under his own name. In 1995, he renamed the practice Suvasthuk. That identity has since become associated with a wide range of architectural assignments and his work in Vastu consultation.

Over the years, Murraliidhhar has worked with builders including Prestige, Brigade, Puravankara and Adarsh, among others. These associations form one part of a portfolio that also includes houses, layouts, villas, apartments, schools, hospitals, industries and resorts. The range reflects a practice whose experience extends across residential, institutional, commercial and leisure environments, with each project category bringing a different set of requirements.

The distinction between those categories matters. A residence is shaped around daily life and individual preferences. A school must accommodate learning and shared activity. A hospital has demanding operational needs, while an industrial building serves processes, people and production. Resort projects introduce another relationship between buildings, their setting and the experience of a stay. His assignments have spanned this varied architectural territory.

More than 1,000 successful projects give substance to that breadth. The number represents an extensive professional record accumulated since the beginning of his independent career. It also illustrates how far the practice has travelled from its original establishment: a business opened under his own name has developed into Suvasthuk, with experience across numerous building types and relationships with prominent developers.

Suvasthuk has a six-person team, a compact structure alongside the scale of its overall portfolio. This makes the practice an interesting example of an architectural business with broad project exposure and a relatively small workforce. Its profile is closely connected to Murraliidhhar’s experience, bringing together the work of the team and the professional identity he has developed over decades.

Vastu consultation is another significant strand of his career. He has travelled across India for consultation assignments, extending his reach beyond his architectural practice. His consultation work has included major industrial clients and Vijay Mallya. These engagements add a separate dimension to his professional story, alongside the buildings and developments that form his architectural portfolio.

His personal life also has a connection to design and construction. In 1994, he married Manasa, a consultant whose work includes interior design, construction detailing and related services. She also owns a construction company. Their respective professional interests encompass architecture, interiors and execution, placing both of them within different aspects of the built environment.

Viewed together, these chapters trace a career built through education, employment, independent enterprise and continuing professional work. Tumkur, Huliyar and Hassan belong to its beginnings; established architectural firms provided early experience; Muralidhar and Associates marked the first independent step. Suvasthuk became the identity under which that journey continued, supported by a varied portfolio and the wider reach of Vastu consultancy.

The lasting expression of Muralidhar’s career lies in the spaces associated with his work: places to live, learn, recover, manufacture and unwind. Their purposes differ, but collectively they describe the scope of his professional life. From graduating in 1987 to establishing Suvasthuk’s identity and completing more than a thousand projects, his story follows the steady development of an architect into a practice owner with interests reaching across design, construction and consultation throughout his working life.
