The spice combination varies from state to state in South India. However, as Indians move to other regions of the country for numerous reasons, they may find it difficult to obtain genuine spice blends.
Poojitha Prasad, a 36-year-old Bengaluru-based entrepreneur, established the Deccan Diaries in 2017 after quitting her corporate job. Authentic spice blends and flavourings are promoted by the entity all across the nation.
Poojitha wants her business to showcase southern flavours, bringing real tastes and traditional recipes together in one place.
She decided to establish her own business after leaving the corporate sector in 2014. Her family ran a catering company that prepared food for companies and workplaces. Their cooking is so good that guests frequently ask them to reveal their recipes and masalas. This inspired her to begin her masala firm.
Poojitha started looking into different types of spice mixes and how to produce them. She learned at the moment that there are various sorts of spice mixes unique to each area in Karnataka. The majority of these had been neglected for a long time.
Deccan Diaries began with chutney powder, Bisi-Bele bath blend, and sambar Pudi, among other spice mixes. The product selection grew over time as she toured all across state learning regarding long-lost recipes from women in different areas.
The firm has received over 1,000 orders for 15 different spice mixes since 2017.
Most of the raw materials are supplied through farmer production associations in Karnataka, including chillies, pulses, dals, pepper, and cinnamon. The material is properly cleaned, dried, roasted, ground, and wrapped when it is supplied. To assist her with the task, she has employed three women from her production team.
Guntur chiles are purchased from a farmer in Bijapur, Karnataka, to manufacture the Andhra-style.
Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the employees were required to relocate to their hometowns in 2020. Poojitha started to make the mixes herself after that. Since the production facility was shut, she had to restrict the number of things they were selling. All of the operations are now carried out in her kitchen.
Poojitha originally sold her wares at fairs and shows and had them displayed in Bengaluru's Go Native stores. However, Amazon. in's 'Saheli' project recently selected the brand, and her items are now marketed in the food category.
