Mrs Astha Agarwal’s journey as a sports enthusiast which started with rifle shooting & won her the Player of the year in Punjab University Chandigarh to the founder and director of AsthazSelfDefense Academy is a testament of grit and determination. From her young age she was associated with sports, being the sports captain of DPS school which was followed by the stint in NCC where she came in contact with parasailing, rifle shooting & karate. A talented sports enthusiast she amassed numerous trophies, medals in various disciplines and even led the NCC cadet parade during 2003 republic day parade at Rajpath.

With a vision of empowering girls and spread the knowledge of self-defense to under privileged sections of the society, she has setup Asthaz Self Defense Academy. The unique curriculum and vision of this academy is a testament to the power of determination and the drive to create lasting change.

Secret sauce of AsthaZ Self Defense Academy

The key ingredient in the Asthaz Self Defense Academy that differentiates her is the unique curriculum which helps the girls to handle on-the-road situations with ease. Astha took 1 year to design this unique curriculum for which, she travelled different states , slums , villages , corporate companies, schools , colleges and  many more places to understand the problems faced by girls.

This curriculum focus on holistic development of a girl or a lady. A female need combination of mental and  physical strength  to face any situation. You need a presence of mind and quick reflexes to come out of the situation . Therefore Astha designed a curriculum which is a combination of mental and physical strength .

Physical workouts include - push ups , squats , skipping , rope climbing , tyre workouts etc .Mental workouts include - games and storytelling that forces a girl to think on the spot to come out of the situation and This on the spot thinking capability is the crux to come out of any situation.

 

Key beneficiaries of this curriculum

The key beneficiaries of this curriculum are young adolescent girls, college girls and ladies in corporate jobs.  Some of the key beneficiaries of this curriculum are:

1. Government schools: Astha ensure that my academy remained accessible to the girls from under privileged background...so with permission of BEO our classes are going on in govt schools , colleges .With the permission of BEO, the classes are going on for the girls from underprivileged section in government schools
2. Girls entering universities: Young adolescent girls moving to college / hostel life from the school life. A special crash course has specifically been designed for their holistic development
3. Young girls living in gated societies, apartments, private schools
4. Village ladies through the workshops conducted with the help of panchayat
5. Corporate ladies through the tie up with corporate programs

We firmly believe that every girl deserves the opportunity to protect herself and unleash her full potential .
