The trailblazing success story of Angel Cabs & Berry Wellness Centre founder, Ravi B

Putting in an immense amount of hard work and dreaming big are two completely different aspects. Dreaming is easy, but hard work is not. Not everyone has that passion for what they want. At the top, there are not many people out there. Not everyone gets there. One of the few children who worked hard for his dreams, Ravi was born in Erudukottai, Tamil Nadu, in a middle-class family. With a small farmland, Ravi’s parents were hardworking farmers, crops were the main source of income. The youngest child of six children, Ravi went to a Government school in Erudukottai until class 9 and then completed his class 10 education at Government Higher Secondary School in Kelamagalam.

Working as a regular employee was not quite the life he imagined, Ravi always knew that he had enormous potential and possessed leadership qualities but he did not know the path. All he had to do was, discover himself. After his education, Ravi worked in his farmland for a short period then he moved to Hosur and got a job in a provision store where he delivered groceries to doorsteps in the city. Furthering his career growth, Ravi got a job as a labour in a factory called Dynaspade.

In a few months, Ravi saved money and bought himself a brand-new bicycle. A desire to work in better positions in life made him enroll in ITI (Industrial Training Institute) training while also working in the factory. Destiny had better plans for Ravi, his beloved brother Raja who was working in a Travels company called SMS Tours and Travels in Bangalore suggested Ravi to come work with him in Bangalore. So Ravi moved to Bangalore and joined SMS tours and travels where he was mostly involved in bookings and accounts. Even though Ravi relocated to Bangalore, he still pursued ITI training for which he traveled to Hosur from Bangalore three days a week.

A year later, owing to his dedication and hard work, Ravi was offered a job as a Transport coordinator at BIT Air Travels in Bangalore. Even though employees have their timings, Ravi was not the kind of person who checks the time as the sun sets, there were days when he used to work for 14 hours a day. During his time at BIT Air Travels, Ravi was appreciated for the quality of work he had produced which gained him confidence, and eventually desired to start his own Travels company.

He purchased a telephone with the money he earned from incentives and then rented a small workspace in Raheja Plaza which was the launchpad for his Travels business that has generated a massive revenue of INR 80 million in the year 2021. Established in the year 1992, he called his company R R tours and travels (1992) and never looked back. A company called TDICI was his first client and Ravi has propelled his business to greater heights.

Advancing his business expansion, Ravi founded Angel Cabs in the year 1999, similar to that of R R Tours & Travels, an employee transportation company. Hutch was his first client and Angels cabs flew exponentially over the years, the company has an estimated fleet of 700 corporate vehicles today. Angel Cabs is one of the leading Employee Transportation Solution providers in Bangalore, known for its large fleet of corporate vehicles and outstanding time management. As per the research conducted by Icons of Indian Business magazine, Angel Cabs is one of the most chosen companies for employee transportation among top Multinational Corporations in Banglore.

Under the leadership of Ravi, Angel Cabs has always kept pace with technology, the employee transportation company has digitized its entire operations which has significantly enhanced customer service. Ravi also owns a chain of Wellness centres called Berry Wellness Centre. It is a current trend in major cities in India where corporate employees are switching to Wellness Centres like Berry Wellness Centre to relax and chill out, rather than going to pubs and bars. Various studies have proven that Wellness Centres bring significant health benefits such as fixing back pains, boosting energy, improving sleep quality, easing headaches, joint pains, anxiety, and more.

       

Ravi never had the idea of running a Wellness Centre in his life until he paid a visit to one of the best Wellness Centres in Bangalore when he was suffering from back pain caused while he was working out in a gym. In just an hour of therapy, he felt a huge relief from the pain he had in his back. It was then he decided to spread the magical treatment to the rest of the world, especially to the ones working in the corporate sector to alleviate stress from work, hence founded Berry Wellness Centre.

The Wellness Centre has won numerous awards such as Spa Chain of the Year- South by Franchise India & Entrepreneur Media, Best Enterprise of the year (Beauty & Wellness) by MSME Business Awards, Spa of the year – West in Beauty & Wellness India Award organized by Industry Live, and many more.

With Berry Wellness Centre, Ravi has greatly promoted woman empowerment in the country. He has particularly offered job opportunities to women who are facing immense hardships in life or have met misfortunes such as an event where the spouse passes away. Ravi is credited for uplifting women as such by offering job opportunities in his Wellness Centre. Evidently, Ravi sees business as an opportunity to give back something to society.

          

Furthering his leadership, Ravi has served as Public Relations Officer at Bangalore Tourist Taxi Owner’s Association during the period 2010-2016, and as executive director at All India Hair & Beauty Association in the year 2020, and is the current Associate Vice President of the Association of Hospitality Professionals Welfare, Karnataka Chapter.  

In an interview with Ravi, he mentioned that, during his struggling days, all he desired was to be an owner of a company with only 5 employees, but today his companies have a staff size of more than 1000 employees. Despite his achievements, he takes no pride in his accomplishments but gives credit to his beloved brother Raja and the blessings of God. Ravi has been a spiritual person right since his childhood. As the interview concluded, he said, “All praise goes to the almighty God.”   

Future prospects

Ravi has plans to start his own real estate company in the coming years. Currently, real estate appears to be booming in Bangalore. As per the news published by Deccan Herald, prices have increased by 20 percent since 2018. Ravi’s new real estate company is expected to create a substantial number of job opportunities in Bangalore.

Berry Thai spa founded by Ravi is expected to open at more than 15 places in India while also expanding its footprint in the Middle East, the US, Cannada, and Europe.
