Abdul Rauf Dilshad: The Man who Never Gave Up

Humans are social creatures, without a doubt. Each occasion that brings joy involves the full-hearted participation of the people involved. However, there are people who are unable to bond for numerous reasons. To make it even more troublesome for those individuals, bonding is a key factor that opens up new possibilities to elevate one’s social life and prosperity. Yet, there are courageous and strong-minded individuals who are able to overcome this major issue and build their own empire through sheer hard work and determination, sacrificing their desires to ensure others are able to lead a stable and secure life.

Abdul Rauf Dilshad is one such individual who crossed the barriers of life to establish M/S Sahyadri Engineering Works in the quiet village of Haliyal, located in the district of Haveri, Karnataka. Born and bought up there, he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in the year 1969-70, and initially worked as an Administrative Assisstant   for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC)from 1972. His desire to gain more knowledge and utilize it to perfection led him to obtain another degree in Commerce (B.Com) in 1983.

This degree gave him the strength to leave his inital job to stay independent and bring a change to his people as he established M/S Sahyadri Engineering Works in 1992 at Haliyal. He established the company on his own with the savings from his job, as he barely had any support. It’s the first engineering workshop there, and is still running successfully till date. He took the burden of running it on his own, but did not give up even if the struggles overcame him on several occasions. The district’s Industry Officer took notice of him and entrusted Dilshad the responsibility of training students under the TRAISM scheme to give them a good headstart into their career.

Under Dilshad’s proper guidance and leadership, 100-200 studnets reap the benefits of learning and practicing in his workshop. A majority of those students have become skilled workers and are providing excellent services all around Karnataka and even worldwide, with some of them having even established their own firms. He has also served as a general secretary of Iqbal Education Society Anjuman from 1980-1994 and is also currently serving as the founder service of Swamy Vivekananda Lions English Meduim School, with both being located at Haliyal.

Dilshad is also a man who believes in God and cares about its devotees, as he served the Jammiya Masjid at Haliyal for forty years from 1977 to 2017. Even though Covid-19 had impacted his business to the point that it had to be closed for two-and-a-half years, Dilshad has not given up hope yet, and still is a supplier and a rate contract holder for government projects. In addition, M/S Sahyadri Engineering Works also currently supplies steel, wooden, and structural materials along with rolling shutters and additional fabrication.

Abdul Rauf Dilshad lives with his family, with his son helping him out in his business. He’s living proof that no matter how hard it gets out in this cold world, even with little to no outside support, one can achieve his dreams as long as he does not give up on himself.
