How Dr Jogesh Deuri is making a difference in Assam through Sericulture
Sericulture
is the process of farming silk worms and processing them into silk yarns. This
is an art which is popular in India and now Jogesh Deuri, as a Director of
Sericulture in Assam is working towards increasing the popularity of this
culture among the Artisans and Industrialists of Assam. Assam has it’s own
silks like the infamous Muga Silk, this silk has gain popularity for it’s
durability and it’s beautiful yellow-gold hue.
Dr Deuri,
post his Ph D, He pursued his research in silk and sericulture at Central Silk
Board, West Bengal. His quest to learn more about cocoon technology and silk
harvesting didn’t stop at just that, He even went a little further and studied
and joined as researched at Seri cultural Research Institute of Liaoning

Sahitya Sabha for Excellent performance in Sericulture on 11th</font><font color="#000000" face="Bodoni MT, serif">,
September2018. Dr Deuri’s work in sericulture was then recognized by Goalpara
District Bodo SahityaSobha for </font> <font color="#000000" face="Bodoni MT, serif">his outstanding contribution to the Silk Industry in BTC, Assam on 3rd</font><font color="#000000" face="Bodoni MT, serif"> February/2019 at 30th</font><font color="#000000" face="Bodoni MT, serif"> Annual Conference at Buraburi, Rongjuli. Dr Deuri was even recognized by Bodoland Territorial Council, Kokrajhar, Assam for outstanding performance and remarkable role in the development of Sericulture Sector extending excellence services to Bodoland Territorial Council and Assam, in the year of 2019. </font>
<font face="Georgia, serif">Dr Deuri worked closely with Assam under UNDP and because of his extraordinary support, he was awarded as the " Best program supporting
official” during the year 2000-01 by Govt. of India at Assam Administrative
Staff College. He was awarded as the “Best Extension Worker” from CEMR&TI,
Lahdoigar, for the year 2006-2007.</font>

Dr Deuri was awarded “Revolutionizing Sericulture Award” by ADNAT
Biodiverse at IIT Guwahati on 27th. January/2018. The
following June, Dr Deuri was awarded the “Bharat Jyoti Award” by India International Friendship Society in New Delhi. In Oct 2018, He then went on to receive “Mahatma Gandhi Samman Award” in recognition of contribution
and dedication to worthy causes and achievements in keeping the flag of India high at House of Commons, London on 25th. October 2018. By NRI Welfare Society of India. Dr Jogesh Deuri has been awarded the “Udyog Rattan Award” by Institute
of Economic Studies, New Delhi in Oct 2019.

in sericulture was then recognized and Dr Jogesh Deuri was awarded “Best
Achievement Award” to BTC in the category of Best Muga Silk Producing State and
in recognition of its contribution to the overall development of sericulture
and silk industry in India by Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India in the February
2019 at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi.</font>

Dr Deuri was
awarded “Life Time Achievement Award” -By India International Friendship
Society at Dubai (United Arab Emirates) in Oct 2019, for his efforts and
research in Sericulture.
He has published
various articles/ research papers in reputed National & International
journal and has even authored a total 10 books.
