Dr Shri G.V. Divakar, a descendant of the Sham Master of Jodigubbi, Shri G.N. Venkata Subbaiah and Smt. Kamalamma, Shri G.V. Divakar was born on 31st May 1956 in Tiptur. Dr G.V. Divakar completed his MBBS from Bangalore Medical College in 1979. In 1981, he joined Minto Hospital for his D.O.M.S. (Diploma of Ophthalmic Medicine and Surgery) and completed his M.S. (Master of Surgery) in Ophthalmology in 1983.


He taught as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Medical College from 1987 to 1997 and worked as an examiner for undergraduate and graduate students in 1996.'He continued his teaching and became a professor at M.S. Ramaiah College, Bangalore, in 1997. In 2007, he became the HOD of the college. Concerned that Indian women lack access to quality healthcare facilities

Dr Divakar founded Divakar Speciality Hospital, an all-inclusive women’s healthcare facility, in 1990. Today, he is a renowned ophthalmologist with over three decades of experience in the medical field.

He specialises in general ophthalmology, retinal treatments, corneal and diabetic eye exams, and glaucoma treatment. He has held key positions at prestigious medical facilities, including Vasan Eye Care Hospital and is currently serving as a consultant ophthalmologist at Dr Malathi Manipal Hospital, Bangalore.

He also serves as the Managing Director of the Asian Research and Training Institute for Skill Transfer (ARTIST), a platform for training healthcare workers. He also serves as the Managing Trustee of Divakar’s Service Trust, Bangalore.

<font style="font-size: 0.875rem;"></font><font style="font-size: 0.875rem;">Dr Divakar has achieved key positions in several disciplines due to her hard work and expertise. He is a member of </font>the KOS - Karnataka Ophthalmological Association ( President - 2007 to 2008 ), BOS - Bangalore Ophthalmological Association ( President - 2021 to 2023 ) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA)<font style="font-size: 0.875rem;">. He serves as the Secretary of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, which has over 500 private hospitals as members.</font>

Divakar Speciality Hospital became the first private hospital in Karnataka to receive ISO accreditation in 1998, just eight years after its establishment, thanks to Dr Divakar’s commitment to ensuring high-quality care and the well-being of his patients. The leader has been honoured by the IMA with the title of Honorary Professor for his 34 years of service to the medical field.

Dr G. V. Divakar has been working as a Senior Professor at Shankara Eye Hospital, Varthur Road, since 2015 and as a Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road. The eye department of Fortis Hospital is managed by Shekhar Eye Hospital, JP Nagar, Bangalore.

Dr Divakar GV has received another well-deserved award, which is a testament to his extraordinary contributions to society. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International has named Dr GV Divakar as a 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰, acknowledging his clear and significant contribution to promoting better understanding and friendly relations between the peoples of the world.

His wife, Dr. Hema Divakar, is an international obstetrician and a world-renowned obstetrician of international repute. The Divakar couple played a very important role in the medical tapasavani held in Jodi Gubbi, where they provided free eye check-ups and advice to the villagers for the benefit of all.

                                                            This is a name for one of the greatest of Gubbi and a reward for Divakar's talent.
