Sathya Vagale - 72 year old Fashion Photographer, Actor and an Architect

Sathya Vagale is truly an inspiration, At the age of 72 he seems to be living his best life and on his own terms. We spoke to Sathya Vagale and asked him since when did he feel drawn towards photography, for which he answered “I found the world of photography extremely fascinating since I was a kid, My father worked with the UN to develop educational institutes in Africa and we were privileged and lucky to have travelled with him to countries like Beirut, Tehran, Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and I didn’t have a camera when I was young and during my travels, I  felt the urge to capture the true beauty of wilderness through my eyes and unfortunately I couldn’t, But years later when I bought my camera I did visit Africa to capture it, this is how was my journey as a photographer began, I started as a wildlife photographer.”

 

He continues “My College had an amazing library and Photo Department, this is where I learned most of the photography techniques and ‘Creative lighting’ is my strength. After my college I started an Architectural firm which did pretty well for itself and at a point, it was recognized as one of the Best in Bangalore and then after my retirement as an Architect, I wanted to pursue my passion, I already had a space of 5000 sqft which was previously used as drawing boards for designs, and since there is no need for such space because all the designs were being designed on computers, I turned that space into a studio”

 

We were curious to know why he changed his genre from wildlife to fashion photography, he adds “There was a time where we had a Furniture Showroom and I did commercially sell my wildlife photographs there but I didn’t see any sales happening because the pictures are easily available over the internet and I wanted to explore Fashion Photography. Initially it started slow where I had to pay the models and create their portfolio for free in hopes of getting my portfolio, but now I am happy with where I am in terms my bookings, I am easily booked with 50-60 bookings a year and I am happy about that because this gives me time to enjoy my shoots, editing and also life”

Chasing ones passion is amazing at any age and we asked Sathya Vagale if he has any other interests that he wishes to pursue, he gleefully adds “One of my clients’ jokingly suggested me to be in front of the camera for once and I gave that a thought and I am fortunate to be part of KGF 2, I started acting in a few serials in small roles and I also have been featured in almost 35 ads” After interviewing Sathya Vagale we are convinced that age is just a number and passion is what serves us the ultimate happiness.

Sathya Vagale’s Studio called "Vagale Studio” in Jayanagar and is spread across 5400ft, studio has multiple set up rooms and has a generator backup along with multiple backdrops and spacious greenrooms.
