The story of Mr. Rajendra V Shetty of Panjurli Group of hotels shows us that Experience and knowledge of life are very important to be an Achiever in Life and Education alone cannot make a man Successful.

Originally from Udupi Mr. Rajendra Shetty’s father came to Hubbali in search of livelihood, from where Mr. Rajendra Shetty left to Mumbai at a young age in search of livelihood after he failed in his 8th standard examinations. After landing in Mumbai he slept at the railway station for several days as he did not have a place to go and a stranger offered him a job of selling tea on the platform and thus began his life in Mumbai, where he struggled to make a livelihood for many years and after several years when he came back to Hubbali to meet his parents, his father advised him to open a shop in Hubbali as he would not be able to get married if she went back to Mumbai and another factor that of his mother refusing to go to Mumbai with him prompted him to stay back at Hubbali and at the suggestion of his father opened his first hotel in a little shop which had seen many failures earlier to him. With no money to start, he contacted his friend in Mumbai who gave him a loan of 50,000 rupees and thus began his first hotel and after initial hard days, he succeeded in his business.

His father had suggested he start the hotel in name of their God Panjurli and his father wanted it to be a vegetarian hotel, but Mr. Rajendra Shetty wanted it to be a nonvegetarian hotel and his father seeing his adamant nature left him to follow his own path, and MR Rajendra feels his God Panjurli blessed him and he is grateful for God for his blessings.

Influence of Shivaji Maharaj and Anna Hazare

While in Mumbai Mr. Rajendra was greatly inspired by the great Shivaji Maharaj and he ardently followed his story of building an empire and so made up his mind to build a hotel empire of his own. He started his second hotel in this pursuit he was greatly influenced by Anna Hazare and his movement against corruption and was greatly disappointed when the movement failed, so he decided to do his bit of promoting patriotism and spreading knowledge to society and he has a unique way of promoting this in his hotel in the form of displaying information about freedom fighters, great achievers, thinkers, writers, soldiers and about the greatness of this country and its people on the walls of his hotel which is a very uniqueness that stands out in the hotel industry, where people can satisfy their hunger of stomach as well as their knowledge. His chain of 8 non vegetarian hotels, 1 vegetarian hotel, and 1 Kalyan Mantap is unique in its own way.

Mr. Rajendra believes in training entrepreneurs rather than workers in his empire and so there are around 700 people working with him in building his empire. He has his chain in Dharwad, Hubbali, Belgaum, and Davangere. He values people’s recognition above all awards and rewards. He is forever grateful to his mother and God Panjurli for his success and wants to take his empire to new heights along with the support of his family, friends, and well-wishers.
